The first of 5 prints, commissioned by the Hubbard Milling Company in the 1980s. This series highlights a boy and his black Labrador pup as they grow and mature. Marian writes, "Just as this man's father once taught him the ways of hunting, he now shares his experience with his own son, soon to be a man. The boy holds the shivering pup closely as they both await this new adventure. The breaking of formation and the circling of the geese stirs excitement in the father, who is momentarily swept back to his first experiences in this very same boat as a young boy. This weathered boat has seen many opening days, but none more significant than tomorrow for this little boy and his pup."
