Have you ever read the children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? It’s a fun story that shows how one thing can lead to another, that leads to another, and so on. At the Blue Earth County Historical Society, we can relate.

While we are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19, there are several History Center improvements planned for the near future – enhanced lighting in the temporary exhibit space, multimedia improvements for the meeting rooms and reconfiguring space for large community groups to gather. If you’ve ever been part of a remodel, you know a lot of things have to lineup before any project gets started. It’s the same for BECHS, except before changes can even begin at the History Center, we were stopped in our tracks by the 1960 asbestos ceiling.

And so, starting later this month, professional abatement of the asbestos will take place on the main level of the History Center. While BECHS plans to utilize some designated building funds, it will take just an additional $50,000 by July 15th to complete this $150,000 project. Join our $50,000 Building Fund campaign today to improve the health and safety of our community gathering spaces for everyone who visits the History Center!

Together we will inspire, engage and connect our community to local history. Thank you for being a History Hero!
