Biographical / Historical:

John A. (J. A.) Willard was born in 1833 and came to Mankato in 1856 after studying law. He followed a variety of pursuits in Mankato. He practiced law at the firm of Willard & Barney, built a railroad line as president of a railroad company, became involved in linseed oil manufacturing, was president of First National Bank, and served two years as Mayor of Mankato. He died in 1897.
