An Emotional Tribute
This painting of Sacajawea has been in my heart and in the back of my mind for over six years. The research done on this painting included two trips to the western locales associated with her. I feel that this painting may be the masterpiece of my career.

My paintings come from actual experiences involving the outdoors and its people. I have gained great respect for the Native American people through many personal friendships.

Only one word can describe this painting of Sacajawea . . . EMOTIONAL! The clouds tell a story of the struggle and strength of this young Indian girl. The depths and powers of the roaring ocean challenging the rocks amplifies the mood of the day, reflecting Sacajawea many emotions. Her good spirit shows a remarkable glow against the obstacles of life.

The highest compliment has already been awarded me in the words of a viewer at the premier showing of the original oil painting, when a man spoke with tearful emotion: “Thank you for bringing back Sacajawea so we may all know her!” –Marian Anderson
