How are you – really?
With everything going on in the world, I wanted to take a moment to remind you that YOU matter to all of us at the Blue Earth County Historical Society. Thank you for choosing to be here for BECHS and our mission, and you can count on us to be here for you during these uncertain and historic times.
As you may already be aware, the History Center closed to the public on March 18 and will remain closed until at least May 1, 2020. While our physical doors may be locked, we are choosing to move forward. Our staff is working from home, finding creative ways to continue to inspire, engage and connect you to local history.
While we don't have everything figured out, we know a couple things.
- YOU matter to us.
- HISTORY matters to us. And during this very historic time, we are actively collecting Blue Earth County’s history today for future generations.
- We are thankful for technology that allows us to keep in touch and continue to share history.
As we continue our mission during this time, we want to give you ways you can continue to support and connect with BECHS.
Help Us Raise Awareness
We are committed to preserving, protecting and sharing the rich heritage of Blue Earth County for future generations. Any effort you take to raise awareness of our mission helps! Whether you're talking directly with people (from a safe distance!) or posting to social media, we benefit from having you involved!
One of the easiest ways to engage and connect with local history is on BECHS’ Facebook page. We invite you to like, comment or share any of the posts you might connect with in the coming weeks. Even if you don’t have a Facebook account, you can still visit our page and watch our videos, take a guess at the trivia questions and more!
Also, check out our website at BlueEarthCountyHistory.com for family history research tools, history podcasts, blogs and our online store with a great selection of local and state history related books.
Invest in History
It takes at least $300,000 per year for BECHS to be the safekeepers of local history. This temporary closing and the postponement of our spring fundraiser, A Night at the Speakeasy, has impacted our ability to sustain operations and protect our collection. It will take $34,850 to close the March-May gap BECHS is currently facing.
Your support is essential during this time of uncertainty. If you are in a position to do so, please invest in history with a contribution to BECHS. Your donation has an immediate, positive impact for us. Donations can be made online at BlueEarthCountyHistory.com or by mail at BECHS, 424 Warren Street, Mankato, MN 56001.
We’ve been inspired by how communities are coming together during these historic times and are so grateful for your support no matter how you participate. We promise to keep you updated over the next days and weeks. For now, know we are thinking of you as we continue to inspire, engage and connect our community to local history.
